Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Programme (Part Time)

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering offers a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honors (BEKG) programme for Part Time Mode starting from semester 1 2017/2018. The programme will take five-and-a-half-year period. This programme is leading to the award of Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honors. The curriculum structure has been developed based on the accredited Bachelor of Electrical Engineering for Full Time Mode programme. The curriculum has been designed to be in-line with the University’s & Faculty’s vision, mission and the educational objective. The academic curriculum aims of producing competence graduates that satisfy the industry needs. In addition, the effectiveness and quality of the curriculum such as the educational content, teaching and learning are constantly monitored with appropriate assessment methods in order to achieve the LOs and POs. The main objective is to equip students with soft skills elements, co-curriculum activities, management skill, entrepreneurship abilities and communication skills where the end goal is to train and produce graduate engineers that are well equipped and possess right attitudes.

Programme Structure, Breadth, Depth and Course Contents

A complete year of academic duration consists of three semesters. A normal semester covered 14 weeks per semester and 8 weeks for the short semester. However, all the teaching and learning (T&L) activities are implemented during the weekend over the semester duration. The T&L contact hours are set to be equivalent to the Full Time Mode programme.

The academic curriculum of the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering consists of both engineering and non-engineering courses. The programme covers the broad areas of electrical engineering disciplines in which contents of all related courses are adequate in term of breadth and depth. Details of each courses are presented in the teaching plans of each courses. The   programme   structure   and   sequence   of   contents are also appropriate. Besides that, laboratory work, industrial training, capstone projects and final year projects are amongst the key elements of the curriculum content. In addition, engineering application, integrated exposure to professional engineering practice, including management and professional ethics are also part of the programme’s curriculum. In order to expose the students to engineering practice, technical talks by guest lecturers from industry, industry visits and courses on professional ethics and conduct are also included.

The curriculum’s knowledge flow/breakdown of engineering courses distributed for five and a half years are structured as follows:

  1. First, Second and Third Year - Foundation Year

      Students are taught of fundamental engineering and mathematical courses which consist of Engineering Mathematic, Differential Equations, Electric Circuit, Analog Electronic, Digital Electronics, Instrumentation, Measurement, Power Electronics, Electromagnetic Theory, Engineering Practice and Laboratory.

  1. Four, Fifth and Six Year– Application and Specialization Year

      Students are introduced with engineering system and application such as Microprocessor, High Voltage, Energy Utilization, Renewal Energy, Power Electronic System, Motor Drive, Electrical Machine, Control System, Integrated Design project, Industrial Training Program and Final Year Project. Specialization elective courses are also being introduced where students have to choose course based on their preferred specialization area either Industrial Power, Power Electronic & Drive or Control, Instrumentation & Automation. Students are also introduced with engineering ethics and management courses as well as specializations opportunity. Students are required to undergo an Industrial Training program for 10 weeks in Semester 3 of the 4th Year. Students are also encouraged to implement research projects which relates to their knowledge and experiences gained during their industrial training or industrial based problem. A Final Year Project I and II are conducted in during the Final Years.
